New police figures highlight violent crime is out of control

Police figures released today have again highlighted skyrocketing violent crime under WA Labor.
“Under WA Labor, violent crime is now 14% above the five-year average,” said Shadow Police Minister Peter Collier.
“Concerningly, family related offences such as domestic violence are an unbelievable 19.4% above the five-year average.
“There is no question that violent crime is the highest on record and today’s figures further highlight Labor’s failures to address this issue.
“People tell me they just don’t feel safe walking down the street, especially in the CBD and Northbridge.
“These violent crime statistics are on the back of media reports highlighting that ‘meth consumption in WA has more than quadrupled since August last year’.
“Alarmingly, at the same time drug offences detected by the WA Police are down 38.6%.
“WA Labor promised when first elected to establish a ‘meth border force’ to get rid of this scourge, which has clearly failed.
“In other crime offences, property crime had increased an unbelievable 43% in just the last 12 months.
“It is not just the health system in crisis in Western Australia – crime is out of control under Police Minister Papalia and WA Labor.
“The Premier constantly tells Western Australians that his top priority is to ‘keep Western Australians safe’. Evidently he is not referring to safety in their homes or streets, particularly the CBD.”
