Western Australians left in the dark as Labor still scrambling to fill seat

One day out from the start of the parliamentary year and the McGowan Labor Government is still scrambling to work out who will replace Alannah MacTiernan.

Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council Dr Steve Thomas says it’s absolutely incredulous that voters in the South-West still have no idea who will be representing them in parliament yet.

“Alannah MacTiernan announced her resignation months ago, but yet they are still scrambling trying to work out who is going to fill her seat, it’s an absolute shambles,” Dr Thomas said.

“The people of the South-West who voted for Labor deserve to know who will be representing them when parliament resumes tomorrow.

“Right now, we seem to be looking at a choice between a candidate who doesn’t want the job and another who wants it despite facing charges and being suspended from the Labor Party.

“They’ve had months to work it out.

“If they can’t pick candidates that actually want to represent them in parliament, it raises red flags about their selection processes.”
