Shane Love MLA
Leader of the Nationals WA
Shadow Minister for Electoral Affairs
Shadow Minister for Electoral Affairs and Leader of The Nationals WA, Shane Love MLA, has called on the Premier to guarantee the Final Report of the Special Inquiry into the 2025 State Election will be made public, along with the Government’s full response.
The Special Inquiry was a direct result of weeks of sustained pressure from the Opposition, who first raised alarm over serious failings in the conduct of the 2025 State Election.
A final report on the conduct of the Special Inquiry with findings and any recommendations is to be provided to the Public Sector Commissioner by 30 June 2025.
“This Inquiry will only restore public confidence if there is full transparency. Voters must be assured the findings won’t be buried, delayed, or diluted.”
“Western Australians were rightly outraged by the dysfunction and disorganisation they witnessed in March. The system failed them, and they deserve to know exactly how and why it happened.”
Mr Love said issues including ballot shortages, postal delays, missing mobile polling stations, and poor voter communication had severely damaged trust in the electoral process.
“The Opposition asked for the Inquiry’s Terms of Reference to be expanded to investigate the $86 million contract and the tender process that led to this outsourcing decision,” Mr Love said.
“I remain concerned about the decision to outsource the election to a foreign-owned, multinational corporation, under a contract worth more than the WA Electoral Commission’s entire annual budget.”
Mr Love said Western Australians deserve clear answers, and the Premier must commit to delivering them.
“I call on the Premier to table his Government’s full response to the Inquiry’s findings in the first Parliamentary sitting week following the winter break.”
“Was there a legitimate, evidence-based justification for outsourcing the management of our election to a private, foreign-owned company, or was this a case of appalling judgement, poor governance, and a complete lack of accountability?”
